Historic Scholm coal mine in Bad Lauterberg

The visitors tunnel of the Scholmzeche (Scholm coal mine) was constructed in 1837, opened during the 2nd World War, extended and used as an air raid shelter.
Since 1989 the tunnel has been opened to the public.

You can visit the Eisenstein-Suchstollen (iron stone search tunnel) of the Scholmzeche and the front part of the Aufrichtigkeiter depth tunnel, which is passable by cars for about 200 metre.

The search tunnel of the Scholmzeche is in Grauwacke and clay slate of the Oberdevons was brought in. The wooden "Gerenne" which is found at the tunnel base, represents a mining rarity.

The Aufrichtikeiter tunnel, which originates from the 18th century, was constructed purely manually at about 4 metre heights and 1-1,5 metre width.
The tunnel served its purpose as water solution facility and it ends right at the river Oder.

In the Scholmzeche you can join guided tours which take place regularly. More information can be obtained at the entrance of the Scholmzeche (in the spa park) or under 05524/92040 at the spa administration of Bad Lauterberg.
