Well worth seeing

The Iberger Tropfsteinhöhle (stalagmite cave) above of Bad Grund was extended to a cave experience centre in 2008. You can experience here in three parts, apart from earth history, also an spectacular highlight of German cave archaeology:

In the "museum in the mountain", newly constructed into the rock for 160 metre, the earth history of the Iberges (mountain) is being taught in a very easy way. 385 million years ago it was a coral reef in the South Pacific. Only the continental drift shifted the mountain to the northern part of the globe. Here the Iberger Tropfsteinhöhle (stalagmite cave) connects to the fascinating inner part of earth and it has become a well frequented demonstration cave since 1874. You can experience the cave, the stalagmites and the kingdom of the dwarf king Hübich during a guided tour.

The 'Museum at the Mountain' is dedicated to the dead people of the Lichtenstein-cave close to Osterode. This cave, was about 3000 years ago, the grave of a family clan. The cave was rebuilt authentically in parts and floats - accessibly- below the ceiling of the museum. The exhibition presents the findings and spectacular research results. It also describes the life and death of the "eldest genetically proven extended family" and also introduces the descendants who are still alive; subsequently demonstrates the longest genetically proven family tree worldwide.
