Hikes

Hanskühnen Castle
The Hanskühnen Castle with inn is situated in the southwestern part of the Harz. The Hanskühnen Castle can best be reached via the villages Lonau,
Sieber or Riefensbeek-Kamschlacken.

Bismark Tower
The Bismark tower is situated above Bad Lauterberg and can be reached easily via the Weinberg in Bad Lauterberg. After the ascent, you can relax at the Bismarck-Inn.

Großer Knollen
The große Knollen is situated 687m above sea level. The mountain can be reached via Sieber, St. Andreasberg, Bad Lauterberg, Herzberg or Scharzfeld. It is one of the most popular destinations in the Harz.

Vieving points Ravensberg

Bad Sachsa

From the Ravensberg, 660m above sea level, one has a great view over the Harz mountains. In winter the Ravensberg is a popular destinations for skiers. Lots of cross-country runs invite cross country skiing, a slope for down-hill skiing is available and toboggan is also possible.

Torfhaus
Torfhaus is situated between Braunlage and Bad Harzburg on a height of around 820m.
The ski and cross country skiing possibilities are outstanding on the Torfhaus. In good weather one has a fantastic view onto the Brocken.
In summer Torfhaus becomes a popular meeting point for all motor-bikers.

Dams

Ecker Dam
The Ecker Dam is situated near Bad Harzburg. It is the smallest reservoir of the Harz water regulation systems. The building of the dam started in the 2nd Word War and was completed in 1943 fertiggestellt.

Grane Dam
The Grane Dam is the newest dam in the Harz. In the year 1966 the 61m high and 600m long dam was constructed. The dam is situated northwest in the Harz near Goslar.

Innerste Dam
The Innerste Dam is situated near Wolfshagen, between Langelsheim and Lautental. The 750m long dam wall is one of the longest of the Harz dams.
The Innstere Dam offers different water sports options.

Rappbode Dam
The Rappbode Dam is situated in the east Harz mountains. It has a capacity of around109 million cubic-metres and is Germany's largest dam. The dam is situated between Trautenstein and Wendefurth.

Oder Dam
The Oder Dam is situated between Bad Lauterberg and Braunlage. It was constructed in 1933. Angler, sailors and surfers can enjoy themselves here. The reservoir is ca. 6km long.

Oker Dam
The Oker Dam is situated above the Schulenberg. The village Schulenberg had to give way to this reservoir then and was relocated on the 'Kleinen Wiesenberg'. A popular destination for divers, who can still find remnants of the flooded village on the ground. Further sportive activities like sailing, surfing, pedal-boating or rowing are possible here.

The mine Samson, which operated from 1521 - 1910 houses the Mining Museum today. The mine Samson is one of Germany's most important monuments and historical show mines.

Andreasberg Ottiliae-Saft and Mining Museum Clausthal-Zellerfeld
The window tower of the Ottiliae-shaft was constructed in the year 1876 and is Germany's oldest iron preserved window tower. With this shaft ores were extracted until 1930. This mining museum for technique and culture history offers guided tours regularly.

Mining Museum 'Lautenthals Glück' Lautenthal
The silver mine 'Lautenthals Glück is one of the oldest still passable mines of the Upper Harz. In the ca. 450-year old mine is the unique Upper Harz ore shipping reconstructed inside the mountain.

19-Lachter-Stollen in Wildemann
The mine and the shaft were in operation till 1924. In the past ore was being explored and excavated. The shaft started in the year 1551 and only in 1690 after painstakingly work did it reach a length of ca. 8,8km.

Prior Pond Walkenried
The Prior lake between Bad Sachsa and Walkenried is a forest public swimming pool and can reached easily from the car park in a few minutes walk. The pond is also a paradise for anglers.

Schmelz Pond Bad Sachsa
The Schmelz pond, directly next to the Kurpark, offers option for pedal-boating, rowing and water-cycling. In winter, if the ice surface is thick enough, the pond is open to the public for ice skating and ice stock sport.

Animals

Harzfalkenhof
What a bout a birds' flight show at the Harz hawk estate on the Katzenstein in Bad Sachsa. The Harz hawk estate houses rare native and exotic birds of prey. It is open all year round. The flight show takes place from May to October. There is also one of the very few breeding station for these rare animals.

Do visit one of German's oldest fairytale parks the fairytale ground in Bad Sachsa. In a very elaborate lovingly created fairytale forest most of the popular German fairy-tales are being depicted. An experience not only for small children. The fairytale ground is situated behind the Schmelz pond in Bad Sachsa.
